NEARBY & OF INTEREST
Northwest Arkansas' natural attractions draw outdoor enthusiasts from around the world. The 28,000-acre Beaver Lake, was the site of the first Bass masters fishing tournament, and still regularly hosts the event. Area trout streams yielded the current world record brown trout. The Buffalo River, America's first nationally designated scenic river, carries canoeist and kayak enthusiasts through the 1.2 million acre Ozark National Forest. For history buffs you can enjoy a visit to two Civil War battlefields, which are now historic Parks. The area's booming economy, the 6th fastest growing in the country, is fueled by the University of Arkansas, a steady influx of affluent retirees, and a strong job market centered around the corporate offices of JB Hunt, Wal-Mart, and Tyson Foods, to name a few. These factors and more have contributed to the area's phenomenal growth. The population of Benton and Washington counties increased by 47% in the last decade, with over 60% employment growth during the same period. Contributing to this growth is the new Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport (XNA) located in Highfill, about 16 miles away from Bella Vista.
